The Star understands that Fink is up for consideration by Wednesday, who are on the lookout for a new manager after Dejphon Chansiri’s decision to fire Tony Pulis earlier this week.

Fink, 53, spent the best part of a decade at Bayern during his playing days, and has been in charge of a number of countries during a managerial career that has seen him work in Germany, Switzerland, Austria and – most recently – Japan.

Working with the likes of Andres Iniesta, David Villa and Lukas Podolski, Fink recently guided Vissel Kobe to their first ever trophies in Japan, winning the Emperors Cup and Japanese Super Cup earlier this year before resigning to return home to Europe.

Now, with the Owls on the hunt for a new manager, The Star is led to believe that Fink is interested in taking on the role, and is very keen to land himself a job in England if the opportunity arises.

Fink is a two-time Swiss Super League winner with Basel, and has experience of managing in both the UEFA Champions League and Europa League over the course of his managerial career.

The German, who won the UCL with Bayern in the 2000s, is said to be open to making the move to Hillsborough in the new year, although it remains to be seen who else he is in contention alongside as Chansiri weighs up his options.

There have been a number of names linked with the Wednesday job since the announcement of Pulis’ exit was made, and while one of them is José Morais – fresh off the back of leaving Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in the Republic of Korea – The Star is led to believe that that link is ‘just rumours’ at this stage.

Chansiri has had five permanent managers working for him since he bought the club in January 2015, and while the goal has always been promotion to the Premier League, right now the focus is making sure that the Owls retain their Championship status for the 2021/21 season.
