Eight Premier League talents that Sheffield Wednesday could look at following their exits from Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea

The Owls currently have a squad of just 12 senior players set to return for preseason on June 28th, with July 1st seeing the expiration of numerous contracts at the club as a new era begins under Moore.

It is fully expected that Wednesday are planning to go down the free agent and loan route this season after the club’s finances were hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, and with the wage bill set to drop massively there is thought to be a new strategy in place to make sure things get better going forward.

With that in mind, we took a look at some of the youngsters released by the Premier League’s top four clubs, some of whom may be persuaded to come and join Moore’s Hillsborough project as immediate promotion is eyed up.

Here’s some names that could be of interest...

Manchester City

Louie Moulden – A 19-year-old goalkeeper who made three Premier League 2 appearances last season. He may not be an immediate threat to Cameron Dawson or Joe Wildsmith, but could be worth a look as a free agent.

Felix Nmecha – This one is a HUGE long shot, to be fair… Nmecha is leaving City, but it’s highly unlikely that he’d be looking at League One after finishing among the Premier League 2 top scorers last season – and also grabbing a UEFA Champions League assist in November last year.

Manchester United

Jacob Carney – Carney, 20, spent last season on loan from United with Portadown in Northern Ireland, playing 26 games for the club. He’s also had a couple of loan spells in England, and will be looking for more regular first team football.

Mark Helm – Moore is looking for a centre midfielder, and Helm could be an option following his Old Trafford exit. The 19-year-old was a regular in the Premier League 2 last season, and also got a few EFL Trophy appearances as well.

Max Taylor – Centre back is another position Moore is after, and Taylor fits the bill as a player who can play on the left or right side of a centre pairing. The 21-year-old also played in the EFL Trophy last season.

Liverpool

Joe Hardy - A 22-year-old striker that had a tremendous end to last season’s Premier League 2 campaign, scoring six goals and getting one assist in his last 10 games.

Liam Coyle - Primarily a defensive midfielder, Coyle has plenty of diversity to his game having also played at centre back and right back. Has been at the Liverpool academy since he was 10.

Chelsea

Jack Wakely – He’s described as a ‘tall, strong, two-footed centre-back’ by Chelsea’s official website, and he’s on the lookout for a new club after leaving the Blues. Spent last season on loan with Brighton & Hove Albion’s U23s, and might relish the opportunity to play for a manager like Moore.
