Chansiri, who was speaking publicly for the first time since announcing Garry Monk’s arrival last year, spoke about several topics relating to the club, including the future of the manager, the case with the English Football League and much more.

One thing that did catch the ear especially, however, was the fact that the club missed out on a huge sponsorship that could’ve been worth upwards of £100,000,000 over a 10-year period, although it has been made clear that it would only reach nine figures should the team secure promotion to the Premier League.

The Owls chairman was quick to point out that he values the club’s fans tremendously, but admitted that a ‘minority’ played a part in this specific deal falling through.

He told the media, “Before COVID, I have a deal with one sponsor - it would have been very big for this club, something that’s never happened before - that was almost finished.

“It was eight to nine figures, depending on how we finished. We’d agreed in principle, but their team went and found information on social media and asked why there was so much negativity about me and the club.

“I explained that it was minor, but they said they didn’t believe it. They refused me in the end.

“I’m not blaming the fans, it’s just a fact. I had a big one, I tried to bring money to support the club, and all I ask is that if you don’t support then don’t damage.

“I know that the majority of the fans are amazing fans, it’s just a little.”

There was plenty more to dissect from the Wednesday chairman in a press conference that lasted around three hours over the course of the morning, and we’ll be breaking it down as the day goes on, but one thing has been made clear – Chansiri has no intention of selling Sheffield Wednesday Football Club, and he’s in it for the long haul.
