The Owls were beaten 2-1 by Brentford on Wednesday evening as their poor home run continued, with Massimo Luongo missing out due to a knee injury that he picked up in the 1-0 win over Birmingham City.

A first half brace from Ivan Toney saw last year’s Play-Off finalists leave Hillsborough with three points, with the on-fire striker getting his second not long after Kadeem Harris had found Callum Paterson’s head to get Wednesday level.

While they wait for the swelling to go down on Luongo’s knock, Garry Monk says that things are looking up on the injury front as they seek to get Dominic Iorfa, Izzy Brown and Tom Lees in particular back – possibly even against Luton.

He told the media after the game last night, “Dom and Tom are progressing really well. Palms was back involved, he’s trained the last couple of days so he’s back in.

“We’re very hopeful that Dom, Tom and Izzy - if it’s not the weekend - then they should be training the start of next week or over this weekend… Sometimes it might be a case of needs must this season, but I think we’re in a healthy position so we’ll do right by them.

“We’ll see how they go over the next couple of days, whether it’s this weekend or if not next week.

"What you can't do is put them at risk of a further injury. It's about them having a level of training and fitness, but there will be times this year where there are cases of needs must. We're not quite at that stage, but we'll see how we get on.

“Dom, Tom and Izzy are progressing really well and are out on the grass, with Massimo it's a case of seeing how he goes when the swelling goes down.”

“This is a big demand this season for all teams,” he added. “We've had a very limited pre-season, we're just at the point where you've finalised the squad. Some came in later than others, we're still trying to gel things whilst put everything else together.”

Wednesday face Luton at 3pm on Saturday afternoon.
