Chey Dunkley's Sheffield Wednesday absence explained v Norwich City

And it now remains to be seen when he’ll get the chance to do so, with his new manager revealing that the defender has picked up a hamstring injury that kept him out of the squad to face Norwich City.

Dunkley had a long road back to fitness at Hillsborough following a serious double leg break that he picked while still with Wigan Athletic, but put in a number of impressive performances since the turn of the year as he sought to try and stake his claim to be a regular starter in blue and white.

When Ciaran Brennan was named on the bench instead of him prior to the 2-1 defeat against Norwich, questions were asked by supporters about his absence, and Moore was consequently asked about it after the game.

Speaking to the media, the Owls boss explained,“Chey picked up an injury in training in the week, a slight hamstring injury that we’re assessing at the moment, so he wasn’t in the squad today.

“We’ll assess him at the start of the week to see the extent of the injury.”

Meanwhile, Wednesday could welcome back Andre Green and Joost van Aken before the month is out, with Moore explaining that they too will be assessed in the build-up to next week’s crucial clash with Huddersfield Town.
