The Wednesday defender put in a top performance for the Scots in their 2-1 win over the Czech Republic last month and was set to feature in their upcoming European Championships qualifier with Israel and Nations League encounter against Slovakia, however is now likely to miss out.

It is understood that the Owls academy graduate suffered a back spasm in the Owls’ 1-1 draw against Queens Park Rangers over the weekend, an injury that forced him to come off at half-time, with Clarke now having to plan without him for this month’s games.

While the injury is not thought to be a serious one, and he’s likely to be in contention for Wednesday’s next Championship game against Birmingham City when domestic football returns, his recovery time does mean that the matches against Israel and Slovakia look likely to have come to soon for him to play a part.

Palmer has played six times for the Owls so far this season in all competitions and has received plenty of praise from manager, Garry Monk, for his work both on and off the pitch at Hillsborough.

Meanwhile, there a good chance that his new teammate at S6, Callum Paterson, could take part in the games after he was also called up into the side ahead of this week’s crucial Play-Off encounter at Hampden Park.
