Cameron Dawson has been the man in possession of the gloves so far and yet to concede in either of the club’s two matches, away at Walsall and in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Cardiff.
But Monk admitted there is still nothing between the two keepers at his disposal – Dawson and Joe Wildsmith – and that the battle for ascendancy is still very much on.

“It was basically the flip of a coin, it was that close.
“I decided to go with Cam, he did well last week and kept a clean sheet. He’s had the first go at it and it’s his to lose it. But it’s not set in stone.
“There’s no one and two, that’s not how I see it, that’s the truth. I see it as two young keepers I think can be excellent.”
Wednesday travel to Rochdale tomorrow evening in the second round of the Carabao Cup and Monk was tight-lipped over whether Wildsmith would get an opportunity to impress.

On their progress over the past few months, Monk said: “Time will tell, this season will tell, throughout the season. Cam has the shirt right now, but he knows Joe is right in the hunt.
“Right now there’s no one and two, Cam’s not first choice, Joe’s not second choice, they’re competing and it’s great.
“Normally there’s a clear one and a two, but they’re both so good, they’ll both become so much better than what they can be right now.

“Cam knows very well that Joe’s there and he needs to stay focused.”
