Apologies, defaced banners and Vasquez saves: The fallout from Sheffield Wednesday’s Ipswich Town defeat

Sheffield Wednesday were beaten 1-0 by Ipswich Town on Saturday, and things are not looking good for Xisco’s Owls after matchday six in the Championship.

A goal from Conor Chaplin towards the end of the first half proved to be the difference on the day, but it would’ve been more had it not been for a host of saves from goalkeeper, Devis Vasquez. Xisco apologised to fans for the first half performance in particular, and you can see part of what he had to say in the video at the top of the page.

His Colombian was the only Owl to really come out of the game with much credit, and you can watch his saves in the video below after he managed to keep the score respectable at Hillsborough:

Vasquez came out to speak to the media afterwards, admitting that he was upset about the way that the game panned out despite a good showing from himself on a personal level - here’s part of what he had to say...

A lot of the talk this weekend, though, wasn’t about the game at all - with a Dejphon Chansiri banner on the Kop being defaced and then removed. There is a growing sense of discontent around the club, and there are hopes that a win on Tuesday night will help start to turn things in a more positive direction:
