Wednesday picked up a big 1-0 win over Bournemouth on Tuesday evening, with Barry Bannan’s penalty making sure they brought a four-game winless run to an end, but also ending an eight-month wait for a home win.

So on the back of three disappointing defeats in the Championship, the Owls took a big step towards getting out of the minus points by beating the Cherries, and Garry Monk says that everyone is determined to get things right at the club.

Speaking to The Star about the reaction to Jeremy Simpson’s final whistle, “I think you saw the togetherness… I think you saw at the final whistle, all the guys - on the bench, the staff - what it means to them.

“You get asked if you hurt or not, but you don’t spend the hours that myself and my staff spend on preparing players, and you don’t spend the hours the players do, an don’t hurt about it when it doesn’t go right.

“I think they showed what it meant tonight. Even last week they were still together, it just wasn’t replicated on the pitch - they want to do right for each other, for the club and for the fans.

“But you need to show it, obviously, and we didn’t show that anywhere near enough last week. We did this time.”

But the relief will be short-lived if the Owls can’t back it up with another result against Millwall this coming Saturday, especially given the fact that only a draw is needed in order to get back to zero points and out of the negative.

Wednesday haven’t won consecutive home games since December of last year, and they’ll be eager to build on their Bournemouth win by beating Millwall at Hillsborough for the first time since 2018.

The Lions are unbeaten in three games against the Owls, though two of those games ended in 0-0 stalemates.
