Ali Al-Hamadi update and whether Sheffield Wednesday's international cohort are behind after break

Sheffield Wednesday have players back from international duty.

Sheffield Wednesday’s international cohort are not necessarily behind the other payers when it comes to the work undertaken over the three-week break from league football, Owls boss Henrik Pedersen has suggested.

The likes of Harry Gray, Kieran Morrison, Ali Al-Hamadi and Yan Valery all spent time away from Middlewood Road on international duty while important work was undertaken on drilling home the side’s instinctive movementsand how they want to go about the technical aspects of their game, particularly going forward.

With so much work undertaken it was questioned whether their time away from S6 may have hampered them in terms of getting straight back into a groove with their teammates. Pedersen suggested he does not see it as a big issue.

“Of course they have not been here but the things we have worked with is the same thing we have worked with in the pre-season,” he said. “So it's not that we have made a lot of new things for the basic principles with out intensity and our aggression and our pressing, how we travel together and being more vertical when we are with the ball.

“It's also something from the pre-season. So yes, they have not been here but we have had some guys who also have had some really good experience with the national team. And yesterday and today I can also feel that the group who has been here to the whole national team break, they have been really, really strong to help and support the guys who are coming back from injury or to coming back from the national team.”

Al-Hamadi pulled out of duty with Iraq early on in the break with an ankle issue and has trained the last couple of days, while the likes of Morrison enjoyed a stellar break away with Northern Ireland, earning his first start and a first assist at that level.

“We had a meeting today and I think he is strong,” Pedersen said. “I think he should get his chance (with Northern Ireland) and I think he took his chance really well and that is why he also got more minutes in the last game. Kieran is a big talent and he has a big potential and I think step by step he is growing and I think he will be really strong for us.”
