Both Wednesday’s ground and their training pitches have received plenty of usage over the last 18 months or so, with the pandemic and rapid turnaround between the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons meaning that they weren’t able to give them the renovations they required.

But with this preseason, ahead of their drop down into League One the team in charge of the pitches now has the chance to work on the Desso at S6 and the training surface down the road in preparation for the new season ahead.

The club say that ‘tons of sand and grass seed will be used to restore the sites’ and that there are ‘Koro machines currently stripping the old turf to make way for the new seeds’ as they seek to get it in tip top condition ahead of a tough campaign ahead.

Wednesday’s head groundsman, Tim Watt, says he’s delighted to get the opportunity to give the pitch a revamp, and also praised his groundsman team of Leighton Lindley, Ewan Doman and Ben Robinson.

He told the club’s official website, “It’s great to get these renovations underway and look forward to next season… We can now rejuvenate the Desso fibres, improve the drainage and look forward to healthy pitches at both sites.

“The lads did great last season to maintain the pitches despite no summer renovations, they work hard all year round and deserve a lot of credit.”
