Three former Sheffield United men randomly plying trade for third-tear Dubai club after "game-changer" signing

The three Sheffield United men turning out for third-tier Dubai side based at “football Disneyland”

Three former Sheffield United men are now randomly plying their trade in the third division of the United Arab Emirates football league after an ambitious club’s “game-changer” signing earlier this week. Precision FC were only formed a year ago and won promotion to the second division in their first season in existence.

Amongst the players to have been attracted to Dubai are former Blades Jamie Ward and Matt Lowton, with Ward - now 38 - moving out to the Gulf state after spells at Buxton and Ilkeston Town and 35-year-old Lowton, who played in the Premier League with Aston Villa, last seen at Northern Premier League Division One West club Witton Albion last year.

The pair have been joined at Precision by another ex-United man, in former wonderkid Ravel Morrison. The Manchester United prodigy had a short spell at United during their time in the Premier League before moving on and has now joined the 14th club of his career, at the age of 31. Morrison has not played a competitive game since leaving DC United in 2022.

“This is more than a signing – it’s a statement, a game-changer for both our club and football in the UAE,” said a press release from Precision announcing the arrival of Morrison. “Known for his electrifying talent and skill, Ravel brings world-class experience and flair that will help our team to achieve it’s goals. This is the start of something extraordinary.”

Also on the Precision books are former Rotherham United man Ben Pringle and Joel Lynch, the former Brighton, Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield defender. Precision is the team arm of a wider company based at the Ibn Battuta mall, the largest of its type in Dubai. Sonny Cobbs, a former Brighton trainee who moved to the Far East after retiring in his 20s, manages the football club after founding the Precision organisation - describing the £10m state-of-the-art centre as “a football Disneyland.”
