Sheffield United Women see off Burnley at Turf Moor in seven goal thriller
United Women win 4-3 against Burnley Women
Sheffield United Women’s manager Stephen Heely was full of praise for his side’s mentality after his side came from behind to score four away from home and secured their second win of the season with a 4-3 victory against Burnley.
The Blades scored early on, courtesy of Mollie Rouse, yet found themselves trailing at the break after conceding two goals in three minutes.
However, the Blades came out in the second half fiercely committed to put things right and scored only two minutes after the restart via West Ham loanee Halle Houssein, scoring her first Sheffield United goal.
United went on to double their lead late on in the second half after dominating the play, before the Clarets scored a consolation goal in the 94th minute, but it was too late, and the women travelled back to Sheffield with all three points.
At full-time, United Women Boss Stephen Healy said: “Yeah, just a massive three points and there's a lot of pretty nice moments in there as well. There's a lot of individual and collective moments to celebrate.”
“They've shown those moments of fight and resilience and coming back from adversity and to have that response and then dominate and control the game.
“Once we started doing what we were doing really well in the first like 15-20 minutes. It was night and day, and it was really nice to see from the girls kind of really controlling the game and creating some good moments and taking those moments .”
Abbie Jones, 17, scored her first goal for the club to extend United’s lead seal the victory.
She said: “It's an unbelievable feeling. I feel like it's taken a long time to come. I didn't really know what to do myself when I scored, but I'm just proud to help the girls get the win over the line.”
“It's a massive result for the team, but it showed that, (we) can respond when things get tough. We needed that win today. Big game against a team near us in the table and just happy to get a goal.”
