United confirmed this evening that Verrips has joined Eredivisie club FC Emmen on loan.

The Dutch goalkeeper joined United in 2019 from KV Mechelen, but has not yet made a league appearance. His only minutes in a Blades shirt came in an FA Cup tie against AFC Fylde, when he was taken off after 21 minutes after colliding with Kean Bryan.

Verrips’ departure leaves Wes Foderingham and Simon Moore as the senior goalkeepers on United's books for the rest of the season.

Verrips has struggled to break into the United side, first deputising for Dean Henderson and then Aaron Ramsdale.

Chris Wilder told the media this morning that no players would leave United today, but the goalkeeping department is one area that United are well stocked.

Wilder said: “We've not been able to bring players in and I've got to quickly move on with the players I've got.”
