Speaking to APS, the African country’s national press agency, Mousset is quoted as saying he is waiting to hear from Aliou Cisse, The Lions of Teranga’s manager, after deciding to make good on a promise to his father.

Describing the Cisse’s squad as “extraordinary”, Mousset told APS: “I’ve always wanted to play for Senegal.

“Since I was little, I always told my father (who is Senegalese) that I wanted to play for Senegal.

“All I’m waiting for is the phone call from the manager, Aliou Cisse.”

Hailing from Montivillers in Normandy, northern France, Mousset was capped by the country of his birth at both youth and under-21 level before joining United from AFC Bournemouth last summer.

The 24-year-old has scored five goals and claimed four assists since, helping Chris Wilder’s side reach seventh in the Premier League table.

Senegal, whose attacking options include Liverpool’s Sadio Mane and Ismaila Sarr of Watford, are scheduled to face Guinea Bissau in an African Nations qualifying double-header towards the end of next month.

Those fixtures are sandwiched in between United’s PL matches against Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, ranked fifth and sixth respectively.
