Sheffield United: Slavisa Jokanovic will summon key players for talks to discover their true intentions
Slavisa Jokanovic will summon players being linked with moves away from Sheffield United this summer for talks when he officially takes charge of the club next month, in an attempt to prevent transfer speculation overshadowing its preparations for the new season.
The former Yugoslavia, Chelsea and Partizan Belgrade midfielder is scheduled to begin work at Bramall Lane on July 1, having agreed to honour his contract with Qatari outfit Al-Gharafa before arriving in South Yorkshire.
Although Jokanovic plans to study the squad he will inherit from his predecessor Chris Wilder in the flesh before entering the transfer market himself, the 52-year-old is aware of reports that Sander Berge, Aaron Ramsdale and Jayden Bogle are attracting interest from the Premier League following United’s relegation last term.
In order to avoid seeing his promotion masterplan ruined by any unexpected departures, Jokanovic will speak with the trio on an individual basis when they report back for training next week.
Although United are encouraging bids of £35m or more for Berge, he will want to discover how the Norway international will react if a proposed switch to either Arsenal, Napoli or Aston Villa fails to materialise.
Ramsdale has also attracted interest from the Emirates Stadium. But with the goalkeeper currently on European Championship duty with England, Jokanovic will speak with the youngster’s representatives instead to clarify their client is happy to stay put.
Bogle, who only joined United from Derby County last summer, is reportedly a target for Norwich City after they regained top-flight status.
