Sheffield United were undone in the 90th minute against Wolves this afternoon after going toe-to-toe with the relegated side for most of the afternoon. The game may have lacked much goalmouth action at either end, at least until substitute Raul Jiminez struck with less than a minute of normal time left, but lacked little else between both boxes.
The Blades changed shape to a 3-5-2 against the recently-relegated Wolves with Mark McGuinness handed a reprieve and Tom Cannon and Romelle Donovan both on the bench.
Jordan Ayew made his Blades debut, and almost scored soon after when a good driving run ended with a shot just wide of the post, while Wolves should have had a penalty when Mark McGuinness handled but referee Rob Jones made a baffling call - not for the first time all afternoon, it should be said.
But their star quality told when three subs combined - Kieran Trippier’s cross finding former Blades loanee Tommy Doyle, who’s mishit shot landed in the path of Jiminez to tap home and send Wolves fans behind the goal absolutely barmy.
Here’s how we rated United’s players on the day...

9. Oliver Arblaster 6
Played a little more advanced in this shape and saw plenty of the ball as a result, carrying it nicely and also getting some rough treatment from Wolves' defenders - including Bueno, who barged straight into the back of the United man and then looked incredulous when he conceded the foul. Another 80 minutes in the tank will do him the world of good as he looks to get back up to full speed, before he was replaced by Rothwell | ugc

10. Ben Brereton Diaz 5
Had a great chance to stretch his legs and run at the Wolves defence after brilliant play from Philips and Arblaster, but he slowed it down too much and then tried in vain to win the free-kick after he'd been dispossessed. He kept going and going as you'd expect but it didn't look like being his afternoon although he got a good reception when he made way for Ayew just after the hour mark | ugc

11. Patrick Bamford 5
Brilliant centre-forward plan saw him harry Krejci into a mistake on the far touchline and the Wolves man had no alternative other than dragging Bamford down, or risk him running free after he'd picked the defender's pocket. He had the ball in the net in the second half but the flag had long since gone up for offside and the striker barely stopped running, although he didn't have the support he probably needed in that role and his best chance came when Peck crossed low and he couldn't get any meaningful contact on the ball | ugc

12. Notable subs: Jordan Ayew
Came on for his United debut and almost lit up the game moments later as Bamford pirouetted beautifully on halfway and Arblaster fed Ayew, who drove just wide of the far post after running at his man. A big tackle soon after earned another roar of appreciation. Also used: Doherty, Rothwell, Cannon, Norrington-Davies | ugc
