Sheffield United could face transfer knock-on effect as Championship rivals 'close in' on defender
All the very latest transfer rumours from the Championship ahead of the summer transfer window opening on June 15.
The start of the summer transfer window is now officially just one week away, meaning Sheffield United’s supporters will be hoping to see the club hit the ground running.
After finishing 13th in the Championship in 2025/26, United will be determined to climb the rungs of the second tier ladder next term and drag themselves into promotion contention. Manager Chris Wilder is keen to strengthen his squad with experienced heads that will provide Championship pedigree and the winning mentality required.
United had the ninth-best record in the Championship between Wilder’s return and the end of the season, meaning they will be hoping that will stand them in good stead next term as they attempt to take advantage of an expanded play-off system. Those that finish seventh and eighth in 2026/27 will be in with a shout of reaching the Premier League.
Elsewhere in the Championship other clubs are also in the process of putting the finishing touches to their pre-window plans. With that said, here are some of the latest headline’s concerning United’s second tier counterparts...
QPR ‘interested’ in left-back
QPR are ‘interested’ in signing UD Almería left-back Bruno Langa, according to journalist Rudy Galetti, as cited by The72. The Londoners are set to make the signing of a left-back one of their leading objectives this summer after Rhys Norrington-Davies recently returned to Bramall Lane following a loan spell at Loftus Road.
United are understood to be prepared to let Norrington-Davies, who has a year left on his contract in S2, leave on a permanent basis this summer, and it is thought QPR might be keen on a deal for the Welshman after he made 39 appearances for them, nailing down the left-back spot in the process.
News of the Rs being reportedly interested in Langa, who is a Mozambique international, could see them favour him over a move for Norrington-Davies. Langa was sent out on loan by Almería on two occasions in 2025/26, spending time with Cypriot club Pafos and then Portuguese outfit C.F. Estrela da Amadora.
Langa, who is under contract at Almería until 2028, is reportedly a target for SD Eibar as well.
Swans ‘closing in’ on defender
According to a report by the Daily Record, Swansea City are ‘closing in’ on the signing of Celtic defender Stephen Welsh. The 26-year-old had two loan spells at Motherwell this season, racking up 29 appearances, chipping in with one goal.

Impressing throughout his time at Fir Park, Welsh has created a market for himself ahead of this summer’s transfer window opening next Monday. However, it appears as though the Swansea.com Stadium will be his destination.
It is reported that Welsh, who has been at Celtic throughout his career, has ‘agreed to terminate his contract’ with the Scottish champions. His deal is scheduled to expire in June 2027.
The report adds that ’several’ Championship clubs were keen on his signature, ‘along with strong European and Scottish Premiership interest’. Swansea boss Vítor Matos is said to have made a ‘big push’ to sign the defender, who turned 26 back in January.
