'Stress them' - Boss shares Lincoln City plan ahead of Championship fixture vs Sheffield United
Lincoln City will be eyeing a fourth successive Championship away win when they face Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon.
Lincoln City head coach Chris Cohen believes his side can compete with Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on Saturday afternoon, admitting that they will set up with a game plan designed to “stress” their hosts.
The Imps, who were promoted to the Championship last season after storming to the League One title, have won each of their last three away games, all by a 1-0 scoreline, putting them 12th in the table ahead of this weekend’s return to action following the international break.
Playing in the second tier for the first time since the 1960/61 campaign, Lincoln have shown in their first eight matches of the season that they are not to be underestimated. They have secured away wins over Bolton Wanderers, Preston North End and Bristol City, while also taking a point off Southampton. They also pushed Middlesbrough all the way on the opening day of the season before eventually losing 2-1 late on.
After losing manager Michael Skubala during the summer, Lincoln decided that continuity was the best approach heading into the new season, appointing Tom Shaw and Cohen as joint head coaches. The duo played key roles in last season’s title-winning campaign, working closely with Skubala.
Having enjoyed a very respectable start to the campaign, Cohen is relishing the trip to Bramall Lane. He has also admitted to having fond memories of the success Sheffield United have enjoyed over the past decade or so under Chris Wilder.
“Top team, top manager, good players everywhere,” said Cohen, as quoted by The Stacey West, offering his assessment of the Blades. “[It’s] probably not the start to the season they would have wanted
“I remember watching Chris’s team just as I was retiring. It was his 3-5-2 team that blew the Championship apart and went and finished, I think, sixth or seventh in the Premier League.
“These are the challenges that we want. We don’t underestimate them at all, but like we’ve said all along, we have to try and implement our game model. We have to try and stress them as much as we possibly can in the way that we play, and hopefully we can come out with a positive result.”
