Former Sheffield United striker sacked by League Two club after seven months in charge

League Two club Crawley Town have sacked head coach and former Sheffield United attacker Colin Kazim-Richards after a tough start to the season.

Former Sheffield United striker Colin Kazim-Richards has been sacked from his role as Crawley Town head coach.

The League Two side confirmed the departure of the 40-year-old in the early hours of Wednesday morning, following their 3-2 home defeat to Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday evening.

The defeat to the Shropshire outfit marked Crawley’s seventh loss in their first 10 league matches of the season, leaving them bottom of the League Two table and six points from safety. They are winless in their last eight league matches, losing six.

A statement issued by the Red Devils, who have also confirmed that Kazim-Richards’ assistant, Julian Gray, and director of football Erdem Konyar will be leaving the club, said: "The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Colin and Julian, who joined during a challenging period and played an important role in securing the club's EFL status at the end of last season.

"We would also like to thank Erdem for his hard work and commitment since returning to the club last year.

"All three depart with the best wishes of everyone at Crawley Town, and we wish them every success in their future endeavours."

Kazim-Richards, who spent just one season of his much travelled playing career at Bramall Lane after arriving from Brighton & Hove Albion in August 2006, was appointed Crawley boss in March, initially on a deal until the end of the season. He was tasked with keeping the club in the EFL and they ultimately avoided the drop by one point.

In total, the former Turkey international, who scored just one goal in 29 appearances for the Blades, took charge of 21 matches at Crawley, winning five, drawing five and losing 11.
