Chris Wilder shares encouraging Andre Brooks injury timeline after Sheffield United blow

Chris Wilder has shared an encouraging update on Sheffield United winger Andre Brooks amid a recent injury blow.

Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed winger Andre Brooks will be “fully fit” for the start of pre-season training after recently sustaining a knee injury.

The United academy graduate, who made his debut for Jamaica last month, will miss the trip to Pride Park after also being ruled out of Blades’ 3-2 defeat to Preston North End at Bramall Lane last weekend. He missed the tussle with the Lancashire outfit after damaging a medial collateral ligament in the latter stages of training the day before the game.

Unfortunately for the winger, who has scored six Championship goals this season, it has meant his campaign has come to an end earlier than he would have liked. Brooks has been a shining light during what has otherwise been an underwhelming campaign for the Blades.

Fortunately, the injury is not as bad as it could have been, meaning Wilder is confident Brooks will be available for the start of pre-season training.

“Yes, he's going to be out for a couple of weeks,” Wilder said. “So, disappointing that he's missed the last couple of games and missed the final one as well. It was just a really innocuous situation as well.

“He's just gone to improve his skill set, really, doing a little bit of finishing at the end of a training session and come back in and he's tweaked his knee. So, I think he's had an outstanding season.

“For a player to play from the academy at eight in central midfield, for us to identify that he could excel playing in a position that he has done and then to take on board the information that we've given him and go and produce performances consistently has been outstanding. And he'll only get better.

“So, yes, this isn't a situation that's going to impact on pre-season at all. He'll be fully fit. He possibly might have to come and do some work for the next two weeks just to put himself in a situation. But, no, he'll be fit and ready to go for pre-season.”
