'We knew' - Chesterfield coach praises Sheffield United youngster Louie Marsh as hot-streak continues

Sheffield United attacker Louie Marsh continued his good run of form with another goal for Chesterfield on Saturday.

Chesterfield assistant manager Danny Webb has said he is not surprised by the impact Sheffield United youngster Louie Marsh has had at the SMH Group Stadium since arriving on loan last month.

Marsh, 22, scored his fifth goal in his first seven appearances for the Spireites in their 2-1 defeat to Cheltenham Town at the EV Charger Points Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

After Chesterfield found themselves 2-0 down at half-time, Marsh halved the deficit just four minutes after the break when the ball fell kindly to him inside the penalty area, and he slammed an excellent finish past Robins goalkeeper Wyll Stanway.

Despite returning to North Derbyshire empty-handed, Chesterfield could take plenty of encouragement and confidence from their performance after registering 27 shots and forcing ten saves from goalkeeper Stanway. They ended the game with an xG (expected goals) of 3.08, meaning they really ought to have come out on top.

Nevertheless, Webb, who was really encouraged by the Spireites’ performance, was pleased to see Marsh get on the scoresheet again, admitting that Chesterfield felt they had landed a talented player as soon as they signed him.

Webb told BBC Radio Sheffield: “He always looks like scoring. Is that five he’s now got?

“So, yes, we knew he’d be a good player when we got him, and he’s certainly living up to that tag.”

Marsh, who started in the No.10 position against Cheltenham, has shared his five goals between League Two and the Jersey Mike’s Trophy, scoring three in the former and two in the latter.

His strike against Cheltenham marked his second goal in as many games, after he came off the bench against Port Vale last Tuesday evening to score Chesterfield’s equaliser in their Jersey Mike’s Trophy contest at the SMH Group Stadium.

Marsh, who has made six senior appearances for the Blades, scoring one goal, will be hoping to continue his excellent run of form when Chesterfield host Tranmere Rovers on Saturday.
