Sheffield United manager's message for critics of Project Restart

Chris Wilder, the Sheffield United manager, believes next month’s Premier League restart date is perfectly achievable, despite hearing some within the game express concerns about the strain it will place on players.

Wilder delivered his verdict after urging football to consider the sacrifices being made by others in the community during the Covid-19 pandemic, as workers in other industries are encouraged to end their lockdown by government ministers.

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce is among those to suggest the PL should consider rolling back its plan to resume competition on June 12 - although there are reports June 19 could now be a more realistic target.

But Wilder said: “As far as I’m concerned, the original dates are still achievable. If everybody else can get back to work, we can get back to work.”

Seventh in the table, United have not staged a game since the beginning of March because of the health crisis.
