Speaking as the country’s leading 20 clubs continue to discuss ‘Project Restart’ - a plan designed to ensure they can fulfil the competition’s remaining 92 fixtures - George Baldock has admitted he is ready to base himself inside a hotel - sealed off from the rest of society - to help push the scheme through.

United were seventh in the table when the campaign was suspended last month because of the coronavirus pandemic and the defender said: “I’m up for anything to finish the season. Whatever sacrifices we’ve got to make, they’re being made ten times by key workers and frontline people who are risking their lives.

“So any footballer who has to stay in a hotel or whatever, just get on with it. There’s a bigger picture and if we get the chance to play football, we should grab it with both hands.”

Although Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero claimed last week that the "majority" of players are scared by the propect of competing until a vaccine is discovered, basing teams inside hotels and asking them to play at 10 medically approved neutral stadiums are among the proposals being considered by the PL, which fears the game's finances will be ruined if action does not return soon.

"The good thing about football is, when it does return, it will put a smile back on people's faces," Baldock added.
