Sheffield United linked with sensational return for former player, clarity on Blades’ interest
Sheffield United have been linked with a sensational loan return for former defender Jack Robinson amid his struggle to acclimatise at Birmingham City following his summer transfer switch. The former Blades skipper moved to the Second City late on deadline day, signing a two-year deal.
The switch followed an influx of defensive reinforcements at Bramall Lane, with the signings of Ben Godfrey, Japhet Tanganga and Mark McGuinness pushing Robinson further down the pecking order under former boss Ruben Selles.
But the move has not worked out for Robinson so far, the former Liverpool man being sent off twice in his last three appearances for the Blues. He has not played since his second red card, in a 3-2 home defeat to Hull City in mid October, triggered a four-match suspension.
Robinson is less than six months into a two-year deal at Birmingham but United have been linked with an eye-catching move to bring him back to South Yorkshire, according to a Football Insider report earlier today.
The Star has checked the story with several well-placed sources who have since played it down, suggesting that a Robinson return is not on the cards. United may not be in the market for Robinson but may well be searching for centre-half reinforcements in January,

Many signs are pointing towards the Blades at least attempting to cut short the loan spell of Ben Godfrey, the Atalanta man currently unavailable for first-team selection due to a private personal issue and instead turning out for the club’s U21s, and/or Nottingham Forest’s Tyler Bindon, who has not played a minute of football under Wilder.
“Jack is one of those where, if you see him around day-to-day, he’s got those leadership skills,” Blues boss Chris Davies said of the former United skipper last month. “He’s got the respect of people for what he’s achieved in the game, the longevity of his career and who he is.
“As he’s admitted himself, there are unfortunate mistakes that have been made and he’s completely owned those. I’m sure he’s keen to get back on the pitch and put them to bed. From our point of view, we’ve drawn a line under that. He’s someone who trains well every day.
