The Republic of Ireland international has been one of United's most consistent players since he made the bargain £4m move from Brentford, helping the Blades into the Premier League in his first season.

His form and fitness, rarely missing a game through injury, has reportedly attracted interest from top-flight clubs amongst United's exile from the Premier League, which they hope to end this season by winning automatic promotion.

West Ham United and Leeds United have previously been credited with interest in Egan, with national media reports suggesting the Blades should brace themselves for more admiring glances being cast their way over the 30-year-old.

And speaking ahead of this weekend's FA Cup trip to Millwall Egan, who scored a late equaliser at QPR on Monday evening, Egan was asked about his future.

"Listen, we're doing well in the league and I've played most of the games," he said. "I'm enjoying my football and looking forward to the next game. I suppose I just focus on coming in here and trying to train well and get picked in the team.

"I feel I keep trying to improve. Even though I'm 30 now I want to keep improving and get better every season. You have to squeeze things out of yourself and try and look where you can improve.

"I've played a lot of games since I came here. I've managed to be consistent enough to get picked a lot, so I need to keep trying to improve and help the club move forward."

Egan admitted he has bought into life in Sheffield as well as playing for the Blades, after helping them to second in the Championship table.

"It's been fantastic since I came," Egan added. "We got promoted and had two seasons in the Premier League, then got to the play-offs [last season]. And apart from one season, we were winning the majority of games.

"It's been a really enjoyable four and a half years, I love Sheffield and playing for the Blades so hopefully we can keep putting smiles on faces."
