How Sheffield United fans can still get a ticket for Sheffield Wednesday derby clash despite sell-out confirmation
Sheffield United have sold out their allocation of tickets for their Steel City derby trip to neighbours Wednesday later this month - but all hope is not lost for unlucky Unitedites who didn’t manage to secure one beforehand. The Blades were allocated just 2,300 tickets for the upper tier of the Leppings Lane End.
The suggestion was that United could have been offered more had previous chairman Dejphon Chansiri still been in charge of the Owls, amid the club’s well-documented financial struggle. But a fresh surge of support was generated when the Owls were placed into administration last month, ending the Thai businessman’s tumultuous reign in S6.
As expected United quickly sold out their allocation for the game just hours after they went on sale. But United’s policy is to hold back a percentage of tickets for high-demand away games to create a ballot, which fans can now enter for the Hillsborough trip.
Open now, the ballot will close at 5pm on Sunday, November 9. Fans entering it will have to enter their card details, with the money taken within 72 hours of the end of the ballot if their application has been successful.
United have reminded fans that any refunds or amendments must be made before 4pm on November 20, before the game on Sunday, November 23 at 12noon. Tickets are priced at £40 for adults, £30 for seniors over 65 and those under 21 and £20 for U17s. Under 11 tickets are priced at £15 but any supporter under 14 will not be allowed into Hillsborough without being accompanied by an over-18.
The game will mark both sides’ first after the international break, with United hoping to desperately take some momentum into the hiatus with a positive result against QPR at Bramall Lane this weekend.
Wednesday will go into the game still on minus points after their recent administration, no matter what result they pick up this weekend at fellow strugglers Southampton. It has been a torrid season so far for both sides, with the eyes of the footballing world once again on the Steel City later this month.
