Sheffield United: Daniel Jebbison reveals the moment he felt totally confused

Burton Albion, where Jebbison spent the first half of last season on loan, are understood to be interested in working with Osula who has yet to make a senior appearance this term.

Like Jebbison, the young Dane is highly regarded by coaching staff at Bramall Lane and would benefit from a spell working under Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink.

Although The Star understands Heckingbottom is minded to place Osula with Hasselbaink - the former Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Holland marksman is now in charge at the Pirelli Stadium - neither he nor any of the other managers hoping to borrow him or Jebbison will learn if their approaches have been successful until the closing stages of the window.

With the transfer deadline set to pass on September 1st, Heckingbottom said: “I’m fine if Will and Daniel stay. But all along, it was going to be late in the window, because we wanted to make sure that the squad is right.

“There is interest in them, yes. Honestly, there’s been loads of interest in them. As you’d expect.”

Asked if that was from both home and abroad, he added: “Yes, certainly.”

Jebbison is in a more complex situation than Osula, having been a regular member of United’s matchday squads since starting their opening game of the new campaign. Having already excelled in League One with Albion, where he scored nine times in 17 starts, Heckingbottom would almost certainly prefer to send him to a Championship rival if it is decided further opportunities might prove limited. But it would be a pointless switch unless regular first team football is guaranteed, particularly with Billy Sharp potentially facing a long period on the sidelines.

Heckingbottom was asked about the results of a scan on the United captain’s damaged ankle ahead of Friday’s visit to Luton Town. But again he refused to put a timescale on Sharp’s recovery, insisting he had not been updated on the results.

“With Will,” he said, “It might make sense to experience more first team action right now.”
