The Blades were very much the underdogs that evening at a raucous Bramall Lane and the game looked to be going according to the script when the top-flight side went ahead, Steve Yates turning into his own goal. But United dragged themselves on level terms thanks to Jagielka’s screamer from about 30 yards about, before Peter Ndlovu scored the winner from about three.
United almost went all the way to the final that year, losing agonisingly to Liverpool after extra time in the semi-finals, and also reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup and the play-off final in a campaign that promised so much but ultimately left them empty-handed. But what happened to the Blades’ squad from that Leeds clash in the 21 years since?
13. Jean Phillipe Javary
A mercurial midfielder who didn’t really get an extended run at United, Javary played for Walsall and Hamilton Academical after United before trying his luck around the world for a new club. He remained in football after his retirement, with his last listed role as a sporting director
14. Paul Peschisolido
The Canadian striker often crops up in the press owing to his marriage to Baroness Karren Brady of Knightsbridge CBE. He had a spell in charge of Burton Albion after transitioning from playing, and has continued with some coaching since
15. Peter Ndlovu
The Zimbabwe international came off the bench to score the winner for the Blades from close range. Most recently seen as the manager of Mamelodi Sundowns from 2013 to 2015, Ndlovu hit the headlines recently when he claimed he could not afford a £568 child support payment for two kids he had no knowledge of - because he is also paying for 11 others
16. Laurens Ten Heuvel
A striker who graced the top-flight with Barnsley, Ten Heuvel only played a handful of times for the Blades before moving on. He played over 350 times for 16 clubs across his career before moving into management with the likes of Ajax Amateurs, SV Zandvoort and Koninklijke HFC. He was last seen as a youth coach with SC Buitenveldert in Amsterdam
