Wilder says Oli McBurnie and Ben Osborn will miss out again through injury, while John Egan is suspended after picking up his fifth caution of the season in the last Premier League game against Spurs.

The Blades boss says Lys Mousset has a chance of being passed fit for the trip to Manchester, and that some of his injury concerns may have eased by the weekend when United make the trip back over the Pennines to face Manchester City.

"We're waiting on Mousset but the others won't be involved, so we've got nine unavailable on Wednesday," Wilder said.

"Fingers crossed one or two of those boys might be back for the weekend but that's a day to day observation and situation.

"We have to embrace the challenge; the two clubs [the Red Devils and City] are incredible clubs who have been huge successes in recent years.

"We knew what we were going to be coming up against when we came into the Premier League and against both teams, they haven't been runaway victories at our place. They will have been delighted to get the results they did.

"So it's up to us again to try and close the gap, which is an enormous one.

"It's a huge challenge for us and the players but we're not expected to get anything, so we have to go out there and give it a go."
