The second in particular was impressive as United seized control of the game against the league’s bottom side, before closing out the game after Callum Lang reduced the deficit after 76 minutes.
Here’s how we rated United’s players, with a rare perfect 10 for the star of the show...
9. Romelle Donovan 8
Lined up on the left and was a constant threat to the Preston backline, in tandem with Burrows, culminating in a great run and cross to pick out Peck's run at the back post. He came into his own when United were ahead in the game, keeping the ball so well as Preston players were losing their heads all around him | ugc
10. Ben Brereton Diaz 7
Went into this game on the back of his first goal of the season last time out and had a great early chance for his second when Chong picked him out in the middle but he hit it over the bar on the turn. That, and a strange piece of defending when he could only divert a cross further into the United box, sort of summed up his first half but he was much better in the second, linking up well with his teammates and having a shot deflected wide | ugc
11. Tom Cannon 6
Handed a recall and had a good chance midway through the first half when the ball came in from the left but he didn't anticipate the missed header from the defender and it flashed across the box. Fired over later on after taking down a long ball beautifully when a little bit more composure was needed | ugc
