Henderson has starred on loan for Sheffield United this season, his second campaign at the Blades under Chris Wilder after helping them get promoted from the Championship last year.

His performances have brought him international recognition, with the 23-year-old highly-fancied to be part of Gareth Southage’s Euro2020 England squad.

And with Jordan Pickford and David de Gea making high-profile errors at the weekend as Everton drew 1-1 with Man United, Henderson has been tipped to replace both of them between the sticks as first choice for both club and country.

Premier League legend Shay Given, however, says Henderson isn’t ready to take over from De Gea at Old Trafford, despite his fine form, as he believes the Spaniard is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.

Asked if the Red Devils should look to bring Henderson back to Manchester next season, Derby County coach Given said: “Very much so.

“It's maybe too soon for him to be No1 at Man United but the season he's had - and we played them last year in the Championship with Sheffield United and he had two fantastic games then - it feels like he's gone to the next level, he's pushed himself on.

“There's talk because David de Gea made a mistake at the weekend that he should be back as No1 at United but I don't think it's as straightforward and simple as that.

“If he did come back to Manchester United next season and was really neck and neck with David de Gea then it would be a big decision for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make, of course.

“But for me De Gea is still a fantastic goalkeeper and some of the saves he makes, he's one of the best.”

Henderson has kept nine clean sheets this season, as the Blades have taken the top flight by storm.

In contrast, no Premier League goalkeeper has made more mistakes leading to goals over the last couple of years than De Gea.
