United defended superbly and were well in the game until the stroke of half-time when a penalty gave Riyad Mahrez the chance to put his side ahead.
The Algerian added two further goals in the second half as City booked their place in the final courtesy of a 3-0 win, but it was a day United – and their fans – could be proud of.

5. John Egan 7.5
Brilliant early ball sent Baldock free and began the chance which should have seen Ndiaye put United ahead from the Irishman's header down. For all the pre-match worries around Haaland, he barely had a kick against the United defence marshalled so well by Egan at the back Photo: Paul Thomas
May feel he could have done a little better to put off Mahrez as he bore down on goal but the pace and power of the Algerian proved too much for United's defence as he walked away from Wembley with the matchball, although there was a runner on his outside that made life difficult to make the challenge. Was coping well with the threat of Mahrez down the City right before a poor decision saw him caught in possession by the City forward, who dribbled through the middle of United's defence to make it 2-0 and virtually game over for his side. Photo: Darren Staples
Back in the side with Doyle and McAtee absent and did not look fazed by the task ahead of him. Put his foot in when needed but unsurprisingly couldn't get on the ball as much as he'd like. Picked up the most professional of fouls after Palmer had got the better of him and was dragged to the floor. Did his hopes of another contract no harm ahead of next season Photo: Nick Potts
