Michael Beale only joined QPR in the summer after leaving Aston Villa to make his way in management, with his club seventh in the Championship and one of few conquerers of United at Bramall Lane in recent times.

Beale worked at Ibrox under Steven Gerrard before linking up again with the Liverpool legend at Aston Villa and is the early favourite to succeed Giovanni van Bronckhorst, who was sacked on Monday after a year at the helm.

Talksport have reported that QPR ‘expect’ Beale to go to Rangers. Former Blades boss Chris Wilder was also on the bookies’ list for the job, along with Sean Dyche, while the Scottish giants have been linked with a move for Blades striker Oli McBurnie recently.

Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller believes Beale would be a good fit. “One name for me that would be right at the top of the list would be Michael Beale,” Miller told Sky Sports. “His name’s been bandied about over the last month while Rangers have been toiling.

“I think he fits, he knows the club, he knows the players. There would be no surprises with him walking back into the building in terms of the demands and the expectations of the football club and he’s started off his own journey as a manager pretty well as well so I think he’d be right at the top of the list.”
