In-form Sheffield United man making big impression as manager hails “cracking kid”
Louie Marsh has hit five goals in eight games for Chesterfield, with Danny Webb praising the Sheffield United youngster’s humility, work ethic and desire to learn.
Louie Marsh has made an instant impression at Chesterfield after joining Sheffield United’s neighbours earlier this summer, both on and off the pitch. The 22-year-old has scored five goals in eight games so far for the Spireites.
A highly-rated product of United’s academy, Marsh has so far not managed to make the breakthrough enjoyed by some of his fellow Shirecliffe graduates including Oliver Arblaster and Sydie Peck.
But there still remains time, and more impressive performances in senior football will do his hopes no harm - whether his future career is at Bramall Lane or elsewhere.
“You get lads from bigger clubs and higher up in the football pyramid sometimes and they come with a sort of an air of arrogance, like they’re doing you a favour,” said assistant manager Danny Webb ahead of their upcoming clash with Tranmere.
“But that’s not the case with him at all. He’s a really humble lad who works his socks off. He’s got loads to learn, loads to improve on, but that’s why he’s on loan with us. But to score the goals he’s had and the appearances he’s had, it’s certainly a great start for him personally.”
Marsh’s personality has caught the eye almost as much as his on-field prowess. “Sometimes, within five seconds of meeting someone, you think: ‘You’re all right’ or ‘I don’t like you,’” Webb added.
“And within minutes of meeting Marshy, we left the room and knew what a cracking kid he is. You just know. After that, it’s about can he play football? And he can. It doesn’t take much to be a good person, to work hard, to take on instructions.
“He’s certainly sort of doing himself a world of good with his own career, the amount of goals he’s scoring. But as I say, there’s stuff he’s got to improve on.
“There are bits I’ve spoken to him about. Certain things he’s got to do better. But certainly if he keeps scoring goals, he’ll hopefully help us climb the league table.”
