'Let's not sugarcoat it...' Gutted Sheffield United fans react to Jamie Vardy-inspired win for Leicester City

At 89 minutes there were plenty of positives to take.

Sheffield United had battled back from Ayosi Perez’s opener for Leicester City, thanks to the Blades best player on the day, Oli McBurnie.

Then, in the dying seconds, with only their second point of the season within their grasp, John Fleck loses posession in the middle of the pitch and in a flash, Jamie Vardy scores the winner.

A tough one to take.

United fans were in despair. The confidence that would have come from an improved performance against one of the top flight’s best teams, sapped in one moment of sloppiness.

And those supporters on social media appear to be losing faith in United being able to drag themselves out of the bottom three and keep their place in the top flight.

@Whale2901 posted: “Let’s not sugarcoat it. That performance was very poor. Unfortunate timing at the end but got what we deserved. Defended better but Leicester were nowhere near their best. So little quality or composure on the ball. Players not taking responsibility to get on the ball”

And @LysAnelka agreed: “I actually thought we were a horrible watch. Really poor. Leicester where off it too. Don’t get the “unlucky” tag!”

@_joshchapman98 is concerned that there doesn;t appear to be any light at the end of the tunnel: “I guess what makes it worse is that I don’t see a way out of it. I cannot watch this week in, week out for the rest of the season. It’s painful to watch."

Josh added: “We make it so easy for teams. Give the ball away, don’t close down, don’t go for second balls. All the opposition have to be is average, and they’ll get something. And why we’ve suddenly lost the ability to stick a decent cross in, I’ve no clue.”

@peteofsheffield said: “Fought well but poor subs: Lost territory when Lunny went off. Brewster should have been on 15 mins earlier and must start. Burke is Salmon on speed. McB mom. Osborn good. End of day mistakes cost us. Fine margins but can’t see a way out now. CW stays IMO”

@sufc03511924 said the Blades are too ‘predictable’: “Didn’t deserve that but it’s happened. Call me negative but we’ve become so predictable. Don’t have the balls to see games out. We get caught in middle a lot, usually Norwood but this time Fleck. We’ve become a laughing stock in such a short space of time.”

And @designedbyross added: “The talk about us creating so many chances is an absolute myth purely based on 1 game inflating the numbers. We’ve had 1 shot on target AGAIN today, 1! Put that with 29% possession & its clear the system isn’t working! I love Wilder but Im sick of watching it”

One fan was keeping the faith though. @bailsy1977_paul posted: “That little mistake by fleck simply sums up our season so far ... fine margins and simply punished game after game ... still only 6points from safety ... I still believe”
