Here’s how we rated United’s players in the 2-1 defeat, which leaves them stuck to the bottom of the Premier League table.

Aaron Ramsdale 6

Got a hand on Ayoze Perez's well-struck shot for the opening goal, but couldn't stop it from flying into the back of his net. Had a nervy moment when he dropped a free-kick, but reacted bravely to get a hand on Tieleman's subsequent shot - taking a whack to the mouth in the process. Was twice saved by his left-hand post in the first half but showed good anticipation and bravery to rush out and head away from Vardy

George Baldock 6

Had a good running battle with Justin all afternoon and put in a real shift up and down the right wing. Looked absolutely devastated when Vardy scored his late winner - like everyone else of a red-and-white persuasion

Chris Basham 6

Superb defending prevented Vardy from getting his head to a cross and United looked more like the United of old at select times as he bombed forward down the right. But ultimately it counted for nothing

John Egan 6

Did his usual excellent tidying-up job in behind Basham and Bryan when needed, and the only time Vardy got the better of him all afternoon came in the dying minutes when he raced through to score the winner

Kean Bryan 6

Making his home league debut for the Blades, Bryan showed good attacking intent early on and a teasing cross forced Jonny Evans to head behind. Played Perez onside for Leicester's opener after dropping back towards his own goalline

Max Lowe 5

Was perhaps lucky to even make it to half time after fouling Perez, not long after picking up his first yellow card for fouling Tielemans. Leicester seemed to get a lot of joy down their right hand side and it was no real surprise when the former Derby man was taken off at half-time for Ben Osborn

Sander Berge 6

Started in the sitting position in midfield before shifting across to the right when Norwood came on for Lundstram. Up against a similarly class international player in Tielemans but certainly held his own. Set up a good chance for Burke with a good driving run from deep before McBurnie's pass to his fellow striker

John Lundstram 6

Gave the ball away in a dangerous area to Perez, and was let off by the linesman's flag for offside when Perez played in Vardy. Linked up well with George Baldock down the right hand side and didn't look particularly pleased to come off when he was replaced by Ollie Norwood seconds after a good run forward earned a free-kick

John Fleck 6

The Scottish international showed the odd glimpse of getting back to his old self, but you get the feeling there is still so much more to come from him because of the high standards he has set for himself. Had a good opening to drive at the Leicester defence in the second half, but checked back and looked to play in Osborn instead. Was too ponderous on the ball in midfield and was punished clinically by the Maddison/Vardy combination once again

Oli Burke 6

Had another brilliant chance when he was played in behind one-on-one but, as he did at West Brom, fell over at the crucial moment after losing his balance and composure. Chased and harried the Leicester defence all afternoon before being replaced by Brewster with around 10 minutes to go

Oli McBurnie 8

Nice ball in behind the Leicester defence saw Burke enjoy a good sight of goal before his own long drought in front of goal ended with a brilliant header from a corner to drag United level. Then showed his worth in United's own area time and time again as the hosts repelled corners and free-kicks, and one block on the stroke of half-time summed up his commitment to the cause. Hopefully his confidence continues to rise after that long overdue goal

Subs

Ben Osborn 7

Came on for Lowe at half-time and showed brilliant defensive instincts to get a toe on the ball in front of Vardy, who would otherwise have had a tap in. Gave United great energy down that left hand side and boss Wilder something else to think about

Ollie Norwood 5

Replaced John Lundstram in the middle of midfield

Rhian Brewster 6

Showed he isn't short of confidence after looking to chip Schmeichel from about 25 yards out after spotting him off his line, minutes after coming off the bench
