The 27-year-old has failed to hold down a regular place in the United side since signing from QPR last summer and has been linked with a move to Leeds United.

Now Football Insider is reporting Forest are also ‘monitoring’ Freeman’s situation as they look to bolster their promotion push.

But speaking to the Star last week, Freeman said he was unaware of speculation linking him with a move away from Bramall Lane.

“It's news to me completely,” he said. “I'm enjoying my time at United, I'm enjoying the Premier League.

“So all I can do is keep working hard, and long may it continue. I just want to keep my head down and see where it takes me."

Freeman has made just three league starts for Chris Wilder’s side this season.
