And the former QPR man admits he is happy with life in South Yorkshire after his summer move to Bramall Lane, despite making only three starts in the Premier League.

Freeman issued a timely reminder of his abilities with a brace of assists in United's 2-1 FA Cup victory over AFC Fylde on Sunday, which booked their place in the fourth round.

But national newspaper reports have linked Freeman with a January move to Leeds, as Marcelo Bielsa looks to ensure his side gets over the line in the promotion race after losing out to the Blades last season.

Freeman, though, when asked about that reported interest, admitted: "It's news to me completely. I'm enjoying my time at United, I'm enjoying the Premier League. So all I can do is keep working hard, and long may it continue.

"I just want to keep my head down and see where it takes me."

Sunday's game saw United make 11 changes and hand members of Chris Wilder's squad the chance to impress, while resting first-team players who played in back-to-back games against Premier League giants Manchester City and Liverpool.

"Winning is never a bad habit to get into," Freeman admitted. "We've had a tough couple of games recently, so it's always nice to get another W on the board.

"It's very difficult when there's been so many changes; the chemistry is not going to be there as it is for the starting eleven who play most weeks.

"We knew that and the gaffer and staff knew that as well.

"We just tried to make it work and apply ourselves enough to get the job done, which we did."

Freeman is expected to revert to the bench when United return to Premier League action on Friday night, when they host West Ham United at Bramall Lane. The following weekend United travel to Arsenal; the club with which Freeman began his career.

“It’ll be nice to go back to the Emirates,” Freeman said. “Hopefully we can get some points!”
