'Incredible' Sheffield United favourite 'deserves Champions League football' says former Premier League star

And given Dean Henderson’s form in the Premier League this season for Sheffield United, it’s understandable.

Once again, the goalkeeper’s name has been brought up by pundits and former players with regard to where he will be playing his football.

On-loan from Manchester United, Henderson has made no secret of his ambition to become No 1 at Old Trafford and for England.

However, he also appears to be against a move back to Manchester just to sit on the bench as back-up to David De Gea, with the 23 year-old certainly happy to continue his development at Bramall Lane where he has spent the past two very siccessful seasons.

United are confident that his current contract will be extended to allow Henderson to play out the remaining of this campaign with the Blades, a season temporaily postponed by the Cov-19 pandemic, but it’s next year that has now been discussed.

Former Premier League goalkeeer Shaka Hislop, formely of Newcastle United and West Ham, believes he has to be at the top end of the top flight – where he currently already is, of course - and in the Champions League.

"I think [Henderson's future] is the real question now," Hislop said on ESPN.

"How willing are [Manchester United] to play him and relegate David de Gea to the bench with the kind of salary that he has?

"Or the other side to that same coin, whether Henderson is going to be happy to go out on loan again and look for first-team football, and if so where?

"I think he's an incredible talent Henderson and if he does go somewhere, I hope it's one of the big clubs where he's playing at the top end of the league and Champions League football is the least that his talent deserves.

“But it leaves Manchester United in a real quandary that I'm not sure there is any easy answer to or there is a cheap answer to."
