'I don't think...' - In-form Tom Cannon makes bold Sheffield United squad claim ahead of tough Wolves test

The Sheffield United forward insists he would not swap any of his team-mates for players at rival Championship clubs ahead of Sunday’s clash with Wolves.

In-form striker Tom Cannon believes Sheffield United have the quality to beat anyone in the Championship as the Blades prepare for their biggest test of the season so far this weekend.

United welcome Wolves to Bramall Lane on Sunday looking to build on Tuesday’s hard-fought 2-1 win at Blackburn Rovers, and maintain their decent start to the new Championship season.

The Blades are ninth in the early table and have lost once so far, despite an eventful summer which was overshadowed by off-field controversy and saw them lose several key players.

And Cannon, who goes into the Wolves game looking for his fourth of the season after finding the net with a smart finish at Ewood Park on Tuesday night, said: “We all know what happened in the summer, losing good players, but that’s football. It happens, so we just have to get on with it.

“I think we’re in a strong enough position with the group that we have. It’s a top group of players. I don’t think there’s anyone who you could swap into our team for someone else’s team.

“If you go through the different areas, midfield, goalkeeper, defence, attack, we’re very strong. In my opinion, we’re definitely a top, top side in the Championship. Now, I think it’s just about showing that.”

Cannon and fellow striker Patrick Bamford have started the season strongly, with three goals apiece to their name, with the feeling that the Blades will get better as the season goes on.

But they have shown a positive sign of picking up results when being some way below their best, and Cannon said: “I think good teams win ugly. At the end of the day, it’s a game of football and if you win, you win. It doesn’t matter how you win, it’s just about winning.

“I think it’s a sign of a good team when maybe things aren’t going your way or the game is a bit ugly, and then you manage to come out of it with a win.

“When you start to get that rhythm and that flow and that consistency, then when you start winning well, it obviously looks better. But at the end of the day, a win’s a win, so as long as we keep winning, it’s happy days.”

Wolves were relegated from the Premier League last season and are amongst the favourites to return at the first time of asking, but Cannon believes the Blades are capable of posing problems to Cesar Peixoto’s men.

“They’re a top side,” he said. “They were in the Premier League last year and they’ve got Premier League-proven players. They’re no mugs, and they’ve got a squad full of quality.

“But I think so do we. We’ll focus on them because they’re a good side, but as long as we know how we’re going to set up and how we’re going to play, I think we’re a threat to anyone.

“I think we can beat anyone in the league. So, as long as we’re good and on the day we can show it, I’m sure we can get something from the game.”
