James McAtee was the hero at Carrow Road with a close-range finish to seal a 1-0 victory and send United six points clear of Boro and Luton Town.
Here’s how we rated United’s players in the game ...
5. John Egan 7
Fresh from facing Kylian Mbappe and Co. of France, Egan had an easier assignment here but will have approached it no less seriously and was imperious against Norwich's different threats - in the air, on the ground and everything in between. Looks a real leader in that back three Photo: Simon Bellis
6. Jack Robinson 7
Had a few hearts in mouths when he tried a Cryuff turn deep in his own territory but he was in total control and would have raced away with the ball had he not been fouled. Another impressive display on the left of defence, where he continues to more than hold his own. Fair play Photo: Michael Regan
7. Max Lowe 7
Survived an early penalty appeal when Aarons went down under his challenge - there was contact but probably not enough to make Aarons fall to the floor as theatrically as he did. Defensively excellent and looked dangerous going forward too, with his mishit shot contributing to McAtee's goal Photo: Andrew Yates
8. Tommy Doyle 7
A good shift in midfield from the City youngster, who drove United on from deep with his positive passing and runs when the opportunity arose. His corners were once again a real threat before he made way late in the game for Basham Photo: Isaac Parkin
