Hamza Choudhury ‘couldn’t be happier’ to be back at Bramall Lane after Sheffield United win
Hamza Choudhury made his second debut for Sheffield United on Tuesday night after rejoining from Leicester City
Hamza Choudhury has praised Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder and admits he’s ‘grown comfortable with familiarity’ after his first game back at Bramall Lane.
The Blades claimed all three points after an action-packed affair with Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday night.
Hamza Choudhury, a natural defensive midfielder, played 90 minutes at right back, after Wilder previously identified him as an option in that position.
Speaking after the game, the Bangladesh international spoke positively about his relationship with Wilder and said he ‘feels right at home’.
“Me and the gaffer have got a really good relationship; I think we've built some trust over some time we've worked together, and I'm really grateful for it.
He added: “It’s amazing to get praise from a manager like Chris; it’s top. He's done so much in the game; for him to take such a liking to me fills me with pride. I played against Chris' Northampton team - I think I was 15/16. I think he took a liking to me then, so it's nice to work with him again.
On his move away from his hometown, Choudhury said: “The life of a footballer isn't as easy as it seems; just walking into a new changing room with new fans, new staff, building them new relationships can be quite tough.
“For me, I've been at Leicester for such a long time, so I've grown comfortable with familiarity - to have that here is amazing; it doesn't take any time to settle in, so I can get down and get to work.
“It's amazing for me, for my family to come and watch me here, and I feel right at home”, he added.
The 28-year-old went on to reveal that a play-off place remains the target for the season at United, despite what has been a difficult summer transfer window in which they lost three key players in Gus Hamer, Andre Brooks and on deadline day itself, Callum O’Hare.
“Chris is one of the best competitors I've worked with, which is why he's worked at such high levels, but our goal this season is to be within that top eight space,” he added.
“If you look at the quality we've got in our dressing room, the experience to go along with it, once it clicks ... I'm really looking forward to it.”
