Sheffield United goal hero Romelle Donovan reveals key Chris Wilder message on Callum O’Hare’s exit that inspired big win

Romelle Donovan scored his first league goal for Sheffield United in their 3-2 win over Bolton Wanderers

Chris Wilder addressed Callum O’Hare’s exit to his players ahead of their Championship clash, putting ‘pressure’ on the team, says goal hero Romelle Donovan.

Sheffield United came from behind twice on Tuesday night to secure three points for the first time this season.

Romelle Donovan looked dangerous early on, creating chances for himself and his teammates.

Bolton looked the side more likely to find a winner before Kalvin Phillips played Donovan through, who attacked the space down the left-hand side and unleashed a rocket into the top left-hand corner to secure all three points for Wilder’s men in injury time.

The win came only hours after Callum O’Hare had completed his move to Wrexham.

Donovan said afterwards: Obviously, it’s been a day with players going out the door and the gaffer was putting sort of a pressure on us to go out there and perform and say ‘look, we've lost a player but I believe in you and trust in you’ and I feel like that helped, you know so I went out there with a mindset of ‘I’m gonna step up and score today’ and I did. It’s one game, we move to Norwich and hopefully I can get on the scoresheet again.”

It’s the second match in a row that United have conceded early and fought back. On Saturday against Cardiff City the Blades went a goal down before turning it around before having to settle for a point.

Donovan added: “I feel like the character is amazing - we went under the cosh one minute they scored, we bounce back again, they score and we bounce back again. Same here, same at Cardiff and that's unbelievable spirit.

“There are games where ive played in you drop your heads and that goes to three, four, but no - we've come back and it shows great team spirit I believe and there wasn't a moment where I didn't think we weren't gonna go on and win it. I was saying to myself in the game there is gonna be an opportunity here, so when it come, I took it.”
