Former Sheffield United striker Carl Asaba hails Blades' wingback duo ahead of Derby County clash

Carl Asaba believes United’s wing-back duo ‘transform’ the side upon their return

Former Sheffield United striker Carl Asaba believes Femi Seriki’s return will transform the side, hailing the team's wing-back pairing.

Blades boss Chris Wilder hinted that Femi Seriki could return to Bramall Lane this weekend as United host a struggling Derby County.

Harrison Burrows returned to the side in a 1-0 win over Bristol City for Wilder’s men at Ashton Gate last Saturday.

Unitedites could see Burrows and Seriki share the pitch this weekend for the first time since United’s draw with Swansea in August.

Asaba claims the pair playing together will transform the side, amid Burrows’ impressive return against the Robins.

Speaking on The Star’s ‘Inside Bramall Lane’ podcast, the former Blade said, “Burrows, he's played 102 minutes. It's his first game back; you had four minutes of stoppage time in the first half, then you had nine minutes in the second. He played left back, attacking; he was completely up, then he played right back, you know, he put in a great performance there, really good.”

Although Seriki is unlikley to start against the Rams, if Wilder does opt for him and Burrows on Saturday, the former Blade says that it will revolutionise the tactics and allow a more fluid attack.

“Well, I see this team as a really solid team that are going to get the goals from moments of quality because we're happy to let teams sit in behind. We're not really trying to bomb past them and go past them; we're just in play in front of them, and we're opening them up.

“But I think once Femi's back, you've now got a left-back and a right-back who can bomb and can completely transform this team,” he added.

“So at the moment, what Chris (Wilder) and the boys are doing with a team that's not got the full attacking potential because you're missing the right-back that's going to be key to this formation, I think they're doing really well, and it's been unfortunate.”
