Five key questions for Sheffield United owners as fan group seeks answers over latest boardroom controversy
The Sheffield United Fan Advisory Board has formally written to co-chairmen Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy seeking answers and reassurances following another extraordinary week off the pitch at Bramall Lane
Sheffield United Fan Advisory Board has formally written to the club's owners seeking answers after another extraordinary week in the Bramall Lane boardroom. The group have submitted five questions to co-chairmen Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy.
Their ownership of United is once again in the spotlight following recent legal developments involving former owner Prince Abdullah, who has filed a winding-up petition against COH Sports Bidco - the company through which the American pair purchased the Blades in December 2024.
The petition centres around an alleged £35m outstanding balance on the takeover of the club and has prompted enquiries from both the English Football League and the Independent Football Regulator.
In a statement released this week, the Fan Advisory Board said it had asked the owners to answer a number of questions on behalf of Unitedites.
It read: “Following recent media reports concerning legal proceedings involving the club’s ownership, the Sheffield United Fan Advisory Board has today submitted the following questions to the Joint Chairmen of Sheffield United, Steven Rosen and Helmy Eltoukhy.
“Q1. Can the Club confirm whether the ongoing legal proceedings have any impact on the day-to-day operation of Sheffield United Football Club, including player recruitment, football operations, staff, or planned investment?
“Q2. Is the Club satisfied that its current ownership structure complies with all relevant EFL regulations and governance requirements, and is it cooperating fully with any enquiries from the EFL?
“Q3. Are the owners able to provide reassurance that they have the financial resources and commitment necessary to meet both their ongoing obligations to the Club and any obligations arising from the acquisition of Sheffield United?
“Q4. Should supporters anticipate any material changes to the Club’s strategy, ownership structure or financial plans as a consequence of these proceedings, or does the ownership remain fully committed to its existing vision for the Club?
“Q5. Recognising that some legal matters may remain confidential, will the Club commit to providing supporters with timely updates as and when it is appropriate to do so, so that speculation can be minimised and supporters remain properly informed?
“The FAB recognises that supporters are concerned and we will do everything we can to get a better understanding of the situation and seek factually-based assurances that the outlook for the club remains positive.”
United's owners have previously insisted that the dispute has "no impact on the day-to-day operations or financial stability of Sheffield United" and have maintained they remain "focused on winning football matches, not playing politics."
Whether they respond to the FAB remains to be seen but, with the EFL and IFR now engaged in the matter, there are some questions Rosen and Eltoukhy will not be able to dodge.
