The French striker has been restricted to just seven appearances in United colours so far this season, after injury delayed his start to the current campaign.

Mousset has since picked up a succession of niggling injuries in training, while his Lamborghini Aventador car was heavily damaged after being involved in an early-morning crash with two parked vechicles last month.

Mousset hasn't featured since United's FA Cup third-round clash away at Bristol Rovers, in which he appeared to open the scoring in a 3-2 win - but it was later credited as an own goal by Rovers goalkeeper Joe Day.

And Wilder, speaking after Sunday's 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea, said: “Lys has had a couple of issues recently, so he’s not been involved.

“So we’ll see how he rocks up tomorrow morning."

Wilder was only able to name five outfield players on the bench against Chelsea, with injury again playing havoc with his squad. Ben Osborn did return to take his place amongst the substitutes, but Enda Stevens and George Baldock missed out while Jack O'Connell and Sander Berge are longer-term absentees.

"We’ll see how Enda rocks up as well," Wilder added. “In terms of bodies coming back we're still missing the big actors.

"I'm not so sure George Baldock will be back this week but that's not going to be too long, and there's a couple of others with some problems as well.”

Wednesday night's game against City will be screened live on BBC iPlayer and on the red button.
