An orange Lamborghini Aventador, worth around £300,000, was involved in a collision with two parked cars on Abbeydale Road South in the early hours of yesterday.

It struck a Land Rover Discovery, spinning it into a stone gatepost which ended up demolished in a garden, before crashing into another parked car.

The badly damaged Lamborghini, which had one of its sides torn off in the collision, came to a halt in the middle of the road, with fuel and oil pouring from the car.

A resident who witnessed the aftermath of the collision said lives could have been lost.

The 57-year-old said he saw two men near the crash scene but one left before emergency services arrived.

He said when police officers turned up the man who had remained spoke to officers and then a police car left before returning soon after with a man in the back.

Both men were then driven away by officers, with South Yorkshire Police confirming that two men in their 20s were arrested on suspicion of drink driving before being released under investigation.

The witness said: “The Lamborghini had a side ripped off, there was debris all over the road, A Land Rover Discovery had been spun round 90 degrees and into a solid stone gatepost, there was oil and fuel spilling down there road...it was quite an unpleasant scene.

“If anybody had been walking past at the time, they would have been killed, no question. The Discovery in particular must have been hit with some impact to be spun round like it was.”

He said he sees an orange Lamborghini being driven along Abbeydale Road South numerous times a day.

Footballer Lys Mousset, 24, lives in nearby Dore.

The club has not confirmed whether the car was Mousset’s or whether he was involved in the smash.
