The 36-year-old, who earned 93 caps for Brazil and joined Chelsea from Paris Saint Germain in the summer, appeared to damage his thigh in yesterday's victory over Tottenham Hotspur and was due to undergo a scan today to determine the severity of the injury.
“It will be very tight for Sunday," said Tuchel, who worked with Silva at PSG before being reunited at Chelsea.
"It is only in two days, but it is hard to give a diagnosis because I saw him only very quickly in the dressing room with a big strap around his muscle.
“We will have to wait until tomorrow so we can confirm it, but I think for Sunday he is a big doubt and I don't think that he can play.”
Chelsea beat Spurs thanks to Jorginho’s penalty, and Tuchel would like to see more cutting edge from his squad as they prepare to face the Blades.
"(I'd like) a bit more killer instinct, a bit more aggressive in the box towards the goal, a more killer instinct would have been nice because we could have decided the game in the first half,” he said.
"During the whole match there were chances where we lacked a bit of determination in the box - but it is best that we have stuff to improve and still win.”
