Sheffield United tumbled out of the Carabao Cup this evening after a below-par showing at League Two side Fleetwood Town. The only goal of the game was a bizarre one as Rhys Norrington-Davies headed into his own net in the second half.
But United were perhaps fortunate not to go further behind when Town hit the woodwork twice in a matter of seconds and saw Danny Andrew’s goal disallowed for offside.
United also had the ball in the net in the second half but Tom Cannon’s effort was also ruled out for the same reason, with the striker denied brilliantly late on by Rhys Bennett’s superb block.
Here’s how we rated United’s players on a disappointing evening on the coast ...

5. Rhys Norrington-Davies 3
A shocker of an evening from his personal perspective as his contribution to this game came at the wrong end as he bizarrely headed Fleetwood in front as a cross came into the box, under virtually no pressure. Booked late on to compound a terrible night for him | ugc

6. Joe Rothwell 4
Forced an early save from Lynch as he forayed forward and struck well. Saw plenty of the ball but mostly in deep areas as Fleetwood looked to clog up the middle of the park and he couldn't help United get the control of the game they'd have liked. Made way | ugc

7. Jairo Riedewald 3.5
Another returning United man who you felt needed a big evening's performance to put him back up the pecking order but United didn't get one. He's not yet looked like the player he was last season and can't exactly knock on the manager's door and wonder why he's not playing at the minute | uGc

8. Oliver Arblaster 4
Could have scored inside the first minute but Lynch saved and he faded onto the periphery of the game a little after that as United struggled to get the ball to him. Ended up dropping deep to try and get involved before he was replaced by Bamford with seven minutes left of normal time | ugc
